Feeling fine in this coldness

1 August 2023

We all know it’s been freezing recently in Cape Town, but this is just a check-up to see that you are all managing despite being stuck indoors 24/7. Although I love Winter and dressing all warm with a good cup of tea, it can be a bit draining sometimes. Having to constantly cover up your whole body and not walk freely in your favourite pair of shorts, Winter has been a b*tch these past few weeks. From freezing hands to seasonal depression, unwanted weight gain and vitamin D deficiency, it can drive you insane.

We at GenderWearSA want you to know that we are here for you and here to help with anything. Body dysmorphia comes in any type of form and these rainy days can really get you down, so this bad weather can definitely have a negative effect on your emotions. It makes sense if you think about it – low amounts of sunlight may cause a reduction in your serotonin, meaning often in Summer we are happier as the sun boosts our mood.

Some points to stay happy during the cold months:

  • Focus on what you can do rather than what you can't
  • Eat wholesome comfort foods (mine is noodles and jungle oats bars)
  • Try a detox
  • Drink more water and get more sleep
  • Adjust your skin routine
  • Find new ways to exercise (I truly never thought that yoga would make me feel so good!)
  • Spend more time with friends and family

At GenderWearSA, we offer various chest binders in different sizes and skin tones – so you’ll definitely find the right one for you. Our tall binders can also help to lower your dysphoria while raising your body temperature, so you will stay warm and confident during this Winter! Please feel free to email us for any questions, we are here for you and Summer is right around the corner (almost) so hang in there!
